Today a hearing was held on legislation that will require voters
to produce photographic identification. This hearing provided
citizens and interest groups the opportunity to air their support
and opposition to this bill.
Proponents said this will strengthen the integrity of the voting
process by requiring citizens to show valid photo IDs before
being allowed to vote.
Opponents echoed their concern will have a negative impact
on voters who do not currently have photo IDs or will be hard
pressed to obtain one.
Both arguments have merit and if this legislation is enacted those
concerned their right to vote is inhibited or restricted need to
see this will not occur.
